Grateful because of you

The Friends of the Saskatoon Afforestation Areas Inc. wish to thank our donors for their donations through Canada Helps and Paypal Giving. Thanks to you contributions, the Friends of the Saskatoon Afforestation Areas can offer place based educational learning trips to the afforestation areas helping to sponsor portable toilet rentals or offset bus trip fees to nature immersion classes. Because of you, the Friends of the Saskatoon Afforestation Areas can protect the wildlife habitats, the flora and fauna from illegal trespass and illegal dumping as your contribution goes towards trash bags for clean ups, wildlife friendly fencing and the tagging of the fencing.

Your generosity supports the greenspaces of the 326 acre Richard St. Barbe Baker Afforestation Area and the 148 acre George Genereux Urban Regional Park.

Your amazing contribution is a testament to the difference between a parking lot and a greenspace park, a semi-wilderness habitat, indeed. Because of you, it will be possible to support these greenspaces, and protect them for this generation and the next.

If you live in Saskatoon and area- thanks for calling for your recycling pick up. We will sort the bottles and stand in line. Your contribution goes a long way in environmental protections.

Here is a link to the promised free pdf download page from the Living Legacy 50 for 50 activity book connecting activities with place based exploration!

You truly have made a difference.

Today is the day!

Protecting the environment, taking action on climate change, conservation and restoration for species at risk, all while enjoying nature it doesn’t get better than this! Take part in the launch of “Our Forest Returns Saskatoon” – a campaign to kickstart the amazing wonders of winter in the Richard St. Barbe Baker Afforestation Area and out at George Genereux Urban Regional Park. YouTube video

Did you know that just $100 towards the conservation of the afforestation areas is an amazing way to take action on climate change as trees are the largest and cheapest method of removing CO2 from the atmosphere mitigating climate change.  Forests clean our air, our water, and regulate our climate.  Forests help to manage and alleviate flooding.

Did you know that just $90 does greatly assist in the installation of interpretive signs and the creation of an afforestation area outdoor classroom for children across the City of Saskatoon.

Did you know that just $75 would go towards 125m of wildlife friendly fence can be installed.  This allows the deer fawns and moose calves to pass through without getting caught in the fence, or without being left behind.

Did you know that just $60 towards the installation of a garbage receptacle would greatly protect the semi- wilderness habitat without pollution in the environment.  This installation will protect the natural areas at this amazing habitat.

Did you know that just $50 towards the protection of habitat for bees and other pollinators which help keep our planet and our city green.  They are facing habitat loss, and what a better place than the afforestation areas to protect their habitat where herbicides and pesticides are not in use.

Did you know that just $40 would support the installation of a park identification sign to mitigate illegal motorized vehicle trespass and illegal trash dumping.

Did you know that just sponsoring a tree with $25 a month would enable that the proper Afforestation Area protections are in place.  Receive information about  your tree.  This is a gift that keeps on giving, and you can be a part of the effort to protect these trees in perpetuity.

Did you know that just $20 would be a benefit for providing groups of volunteers with facemasks, gloves and trash bags to conduct clean ups.  Community volunteer clean ups go a long way to protect the woodlands, grasslands and wetlands.

A gift like these make a real difference.  Make an impact with your gift, and help make the world a better place. Show some love on #GivingTuesday. Thanks to your awesome support, trees will continue to do what they do best, sequester carbon, and give oxyen and mitigate climate change so vitally important during this era of warmer, wetter and wilder weather. How can you help?

“The future of the planet concerns all of us, and all of us should do what we can to protect it. ” Wangari Maathai.

“The science of forestry arose from the recognition of a universal need. It embodies the spirit of service to mankind in attempting to provide a means of supplying forever a necessity of life and, in addition, ministering to man’s aesthetic tastes and recreational interests. Besides, the spiritual side of human nature needs the refreshing inspiration which comes from trees and woodlands. If a nations saves its trees, the trees will save the nation. And nations as well as tribes may be brought together in this great movement, based on the ideal of beautifying the world by the cultivation of one of God’s loveliest creatures – the tree.” ~ Richard St. Barbe Baker.

Important Update!

This is a big deal!

You can enter the Friends of the Saskatoon Afforestation Areas Inc charity for a chance to WIN $5,000!

December 1st is GivingTuesday, a day dedicated to giving. To celebrate, Canada Helps is offering up a chance to WIN $5,000 for the Friends of the Saskatoon Afforestation Areas Inc . Just imagine the difference $5,000 can make! $5,000 could help provide environmental protection in the form of park identification signs and also install motorized vehicle barriers so that people cannot come in and dump trash all over the park space and all over the trails willy nilly.  The afforestation areas are amazing places to decompress and partake in wonderful social distancing while getting out in nature.  Environmental protections also care for species at risk and the semi-wilderness corridor and so much more.

To enter, simply tell Canada Helps that you would like to nominate the charity, Friends of the Saskatoon Afforestation Areas Inc., to win the $5,000 prize. Contest closes on November 30th. Hurry and enter today!

Online help needed!

No matter where you are worldwide, you can enter the Friends of the Saskatoon Afforestation Areas Inc charity for a chance to WIN $5,000!

Giving Tuesday on December 1, is a day dedicated to giving. To celebrate, Canada Helps is offering up a chance to WIN $5,000 for the Friends of the Saskatoon Afforestation Areas Inc. Just imagine the difference $5,000 can make! $5,000 could help provide environmental protection in the form of park identification signs and also install motorized vehicle barriers so that people cannot come in and dump trash willy nilly.  The afforestation areas are amazing places to decompress and partake in wonderful social distancing while getting out in nature.  Environmental protections also care for species at risk, trails and the semi-wilderness corridor and so much more.

To enter, simply tell Canada Helps that you would like to nominate the charity, Friends of the Saskatoon Afforestation Areas Inc., to win the $5,000 prize. Contest closes on November 30th. Hurry and enter today!
ENTER NOW

At this time – before November 30, can you show that  you are indeed a steward / guardian / Saskatoon forest angel and help with the aforementioned online endeavour as well as this social media nomination to help out the afforestation greenspace?

Though trash cleanups are wonderful and amazing, and it is great to see the forest restored year after year, it would be so nice not to cleanup after buniuks who dump trash in an urban regional park with park protections installed!.  Parks are amazing places to get out to enjoy nature during this pandemic, and they are also great places to connect with  the semi-wilderness area and provincial birding hot spot.  This year’s clean up statistics amounted to 15.34 tonnes removed.  That is a lot.  Can you help protect this greenspace, the trails, the wildlife please?

Please share this email with your friends and family!

Starting Over from great comments

We had some fantastic comments and input from our first input to the introduction of Our Forest Returns Saskatoon! We didn’t start from the beginning, that’s for sure. We started over on our YouTube video, indeed.

There is illegal trash dumping, and illegal trespass going on, so the Friends of the Saskatoon Afforestation Areas Inc is an environmental charity seeking environmental protections in the form of motorized vehicle barriers and park identification signs to alleviate problems, and preserve the environment as first steps. This concept was developed at a community meeting held at City Hall with input from a varied segment of the people who live in the area, users of the afforestation areas and many stakeholders came out. See the minutes which provided the initial direction and were recorded by Trish from the Montgomery Place community which are online!

We appreciate all the input, and if you can nominate our charity for the GoreGiving campaign on social media ie. facebook or twitter, it would help so much, indeed!

@GoreMutual #GoreMutual . Thank you for your wonderful @GivingTuesdayCa campaign to give $5,000 to nominated charities. I nominate @FriendsAreas Friends of the Saskatoon Afforestation Areas for their dedication to 2 amazing urban regional parks, education & awareness programs

Act of Kindness

Can you help the Friends of the Saskatoon Afforestation Areas Inc Charity? Gore Mutual is giving $5,000 to nominated charities! Can you send in a tweet to help the Saskatoon afforestation areas? Can you use Gore Mutual’s social media channels, particularly those using the tags #GivingTuesdayCA and #GoreMutual using #GivingTuesdayCA #GoreMutual and mentioning how the Friends made a difference in your community. That is a terrific means to nominate the Friends of the Saskatoon Afforestation Areas Inc. Charity! That would be an amazing act of kindness to celebrate the global movement @GivingTuesdayCa!

Can you spread the word to your friends and family? Become a Saskatoon Wild Forest Angel, [guardian – steward] and make a difference for nature in the Richard St. Barbe Baker Afforestation Area and in George Genereux Urban Regional Park. The afforestation areas could really benefit from $5,000, and all you need to do to become a Saskatoon Wild Forest Angel is tweet your nomination! How easy is that! 😉

Wouldn’t it be amazing to have a sign up saying Richard St. Barbe Baker Afforestation Area? Wouldn’t it be delightful to have a park identification sign for George Genereux Urban Regional Park? What about those who dump trash in the park? Wouldn’t it be great to have gates installed so that the buniuks who dump trash in a forest cannot get in? Can you help – all it takes is a tweet on twitter, and share with your friends and family to make a tweet also 😉
