Membership campaign and Fundraiser

The Friends of the Saskatoon Afforestation Areas Inc. not – for – profit charity incorporation has five charitable purposes as follows;

1/ To protect the environment for the benefit of the public by conserving or restoring ecosystems and biodiversity on a long-term basis at the Saskatoon Afforestation Areas, which were preserved in perpetuity by City of Saskatoon Council in 1972.

2/ To protect the environment for the benefit of the public by reducing pollution and by cleaning up illegal trash dumping in the Saskatoon Afforestation Areas through addressing land dump sites and monitoring wetlands and greenspaces for instances of illegal dumping

3/ To provide public amenities by maintaining the Saskatoon Afforestation Areas.

4/ To protect and preserve significant heritage sites by ensuring safety, restoring, developing, and maintaining the Saskatoon Afforestation Areas with a view to commemorating the Saskatoon Afforestation Areas and educating the public about it.  Commemorate; honor and respect the past, celebrate the present and provide a legacy for the future.

5/ To receive and maintain a fund or funds and to apply all or part of the principal and income therefrom, from time to time, to qualified donees as defined in subsection 149.1(1) of the Income Tax Act (Canada).

As incorporated entities with an unique identity, Friends are governed by board members; and have customized organizational by-laws and letters patent.  Friends work locally with the City of Saskatoon park superintendent, MVA guidance, and other park liaisons as designated by the park superintendent. In Ontario, there are many, many Friends of the Park organizations, working together collaboratively to achieve mutually beneficial objectives, and now here we are in Saskatchewan working collaboratively.  All the Ways to Give and Save

The Richard St. Barbe Baker Afforestation Area and George Genereux Urban Regional Park are both Saskatoon’s best kept secret treasures!   The Friends of the Saskatoon Afforestation Areas Inc. has formed to help preserve them as greenspaces, as they are loved, appreciated and enjoyed by so many members of the public, indeed, all year long.

Support the afforestation areas with your donation or membership ($20.00/year).  If you are under 18 (no membership fee), let us know so we can issue a special honorary Friends of the Afforestation Area Certificate.

Event Manager and Committee Members – Planning, leading or serving on a committee for fundraising and educational events.  In-person events or virtual events.  ______________________________________________

Grant Writer – Researching upcoming grants and eligibility, then writing, editing, and submitting the application. ______________________________________________

Fundraising Team Member – Serving on a fundraising team to bring in funding for the organization, and ultimately of benefit to the Saskatoon Afforestation Areas. ______________________________________________

Donations In Kind Team Member – Serving on a fundraising team to bring in donations – in -kind for the organization, and ultimately of benefit to the Saskatoon Afforestation Areas. ______________________________________________

Event personnel – Helping with the coordination of volunteers, registration, greeting, work at the registration table, and serve as needed. ______________________________________________

Field Tour Guide – Helping conduct tours of the natural, historic, geological and human geography heritage of the Saskatoon Afforestation Areas. Please indicate which area you are most interested in.  ______________________________________________

Board Member – Board members serve in the capacity to oversee the direction of the charity along with the financial well-being of the Friends of the Saskatoon Afforestation Areas Inc.  A member at large attends all board meetings which are held once a month.  They might work on committees as they arise.  They may serve as public or community liason bringing information forward from the users of the Saskatoon Afforestation Areas to the Board. ______________________________________________
