In the Footsteps of the Trees: Uplifting Youth, Sustaining Nature

Greetings, stewards of the green tapestry,

Let the winds carry you to the heart of Saskatoon, where a melody of leaves and the echoes of a noble cause await your ears. Join us in the journey of nurturing the future through a crowdfunding campaign, an initiative that beckons support for Prince George, Vice Chairman of the Friends of the Saskatoon Afforestation Areas, as he embarks on a transformative expedition to UNEA-6 in Nairobi, Kenya.

Mission of the Friends: Sowing Seeds of Sustainability

Our roots dig deep into the soil of Saskatoon, where the Friends of the Saskatoon Afforestation Areas, a beacon of grassroots environmental activism, have been diligently weaving a narrative of preservation since their inception in 2019 and community greenspace cleanups since 2016. Beyond safeguarding green spaces, our mission extends to fostering youth leadership, instilling qualities of dedication, teamwork, respect, sportsmanship, and perseverance.

Youth Empowerment: Prince George’s Journey

At the heart of this campaign beats the rhythm of youth empowerment. Prince George, our Vice Chairman, stands as a testament to our commitment to nurturing the leaders of tomorrow. As a student pursuing a master’s degree in sustainability at the University of Saskatchewan, his journey resonates with the principles of regenerative sustainabilityβ€”a path carved for the stewards of a greener future.

Richard St. Barbe Baker: The Dance of the Trees

In the sacred groves of Saskatoon, we pay homage to our namesake, Richard St. Barbe Bakerβ€”a pioneer, environmentalist, and founder of the International Tree Foundation. His legacy echoes through the Dance of the Trees, an initiative that birthed a global movement in reforestation. But it is not just a story of planting trees; it is a symphony of saving lives.

A Dance in Kenya: The Kikuyu Connection

Reports arrived, echoing the cries of tribes caught in the ruthless wedge of vanishing forests, with the relentless desert closing in behind them. Chiefs forbade marriage, and women hesitated to bring life into a world marked by impending doom. The north bore witness to a tragedy unfoldingβ€”a dance of despair.

“To be in a better position to help them, I studied their language, their folklore, and tribal customs,” said Richard St. Barbe Baker, as he ventured into the unknown. In the embrace of the Kikuyu and Chief Njonjo, he sought to understand their history, their struggles, and their sacred connection to the land.

Crowdfunding for Change: UNEA-6 Awaits

As we embark on this campaign, our gaze extends beyond the horizon of Saskatoon. UNEA-6, scheduled to unfold in Nairobi, Kenya, becomes the canvas of our collective aspirations. The theme resonates: effective, inclusive, and sustainable multilateral actions to tackle climate change, biodiversity loss, and pollution. Prince George, as our envoy, will carry not only his personal journey but also the echoes of our commitment to sustainable practices.

Sowing Seeds of Change: Your Support Matters

Join the dance, become a part of this symphony of change. Contribute to our crowdfunding campaign, not just for Prince George’s journey but for the narrative we are crafting togetherβ€”a narrative of youth empowerment, environmental stewardship, and the regenerative sustenance of our planet.

Let the Dance of the Trees inspire a new rhythmβ€”a rhythm that reverberates through the halls of UNEA-6, transcending boundaries and building bridges for a sustainable future.

A Green Odyssey: Walking in the Footsteps of St. Barbe Baker

In the heart of Saskatchewan, a passionate group is rallying support for an extraordinary journey that transcends borders and echoes the environmental legacy of one of history’s unsung heroes. Friends of the Saskatoon Afforestation Areas Inc., a non-profit environmental charity, is paving the way for their Vice Chairman to attend the United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA-6) in Nairobi, Kenya. This is not just a tripβ€”it’s a green odyssey, a chance to walk in the footsteps of a pioneer, Richard St. Barbe Baker, who founded the Men of the Trees (the International Tree Foundation) in the very heart of Kenya, Africa.

The Friends of the Saskatoon Afforestation Areas are on a mission to honor the spirit of St. Barbe Baker, a global environmental champion who left an indelible mark on the world through his dedication to trees and nature. Their Vice Chairman, poised to attend UNEA-6, carries with them the torch of this environmental legacy, seeking to contribute to the global dialogue on climate change, biodiversity, and pollution.

Connecting Roots: From Saskatoon to Nairobi

Why Nairobi? The answer lies in the history of St. Barbe Baker, who planted the seeds of environmental stewardship in Kenya. By attending UNEA-6, the Friends of the Saskatoon Afforestation Areas aim to pay homage to this legacy and bring the issues of their local efforts to the global stage.

The United Nations Environment Assembly is a platform where nations convene to discuss and address pressing environmental challenges. It’s an opportunity to forge alliances, share insights, and chart a course towards a sustainable future. By participating in this assembly, the Vice Chairman and the Friends of the Saskatoon Afforestation Areas hope to amplify their local impact on a global scale.

Journey to UNEA-6 Fundraiser: A Call to Action

To make this journey possible, the Friends of the Saskatoon Afforestation Areas are launching the “Journey to UNEA-6 Fundraiser.” The goal is to cover essential travel expenses and ensure that their Vice Chairman can represent not only their organization but the collective voice of local environmental advocates on the global stage.

This isn’t just about attending a conference; it’s about fostering change, raising awareness, and catalyzing action. The fundraiser invites individuals, organizations, and corporations to join hands in support. Every donation, every share, and every message of encouragement contributes to the success of this environmental odyssey.

Honoring St. Barbe Baker: A Global Environmental Champion

Richard St. Barbe Baker once said, “I believe in the Oneness of Mankind and all living things and the interdependence of each and all.” These words resonate deeply with the Friends of the Saskatoon Afforestation Areas, who seek to honor his legacy by making a meaningful impact at UNEA-6.

As we stand at the crossroads of local efforts and global change, the Friends of the Saskatoon Afforestation Areas invite everyone to be part of this journey. By supporting the “Journey to UNEA-6 Fundraiser,” you’re not just contributing to a trip; you’re contributing to a movementβ€”one that strives for a greener, sustainable future and carries the torch of St. Barbe Baker’s environmental passion.

In the spirit of unity and global change, let us all join hands to support this cause. Together, we can walk in the footsteps of a true environmental champion and shape a brighter, more sustainable tomorrow. The FriendsAreas.ca awaits your support, and the journey has just begun.
