In the Footsteps of the Trees: Uplifting Youth, Sustaining Nature

Greetings, stewards of the green tapestry,

Let the winds carry you to the heart of Saskatoon, where a melody of leaves and the echoes of a noble cause await your ears. Join us in the journey of nurturing the future through a crowdfunding campaign, an initiative that beckons support for Prince George, Vice Chairman of the Friends of the Saskatoon Afforestation Areas, as he embarks on a transformative expedition to UNEA-6 in Nairobi, Kenya.

Mission of the Friends: Sowing Seeds of Sustainability

Our roots dig deep into the soil of Saskatoon, where the Friends of the Saskatoon Afforestation Areas, a beacon of grassroots environmental activism, have been diligently weaving a narrative of preservation since their inception in 2019 and community greenspace cleanups since 2016. Beyond safeguarding green spaces, our mission extends to fostering youth leadership, instilling qualities of dedication, teamwork, respect, sportsmanship, and perseverance.

Youth Empowerment: Prince George’s Journey

At the heart of this campaign beats the rhythm of youth empowerment. Prince George, our Vice Chairman, stands as a testament to our commitment to nurturing the leaders of tomorrow. As a student pursuing a master’s degree in sustainability at the University of Saskatchewan, his journey resonates with the principles of regenerative sustainability—a path carved for the stewards of a greener future.

Richard St. Barbe Baker: The Dance of the Trees

In the sacred groves of Saskatoon, we pay homage to our namesake, Richard St. Barbe Baker—a pioneer, environmentalist, and founder of the International Tree Foundation. His legacy echoes through the Dance of the Trees, an initiative that birthed a global movement in reforestation. But it is not just a story of planting trees; it is a symphony of saving lives.

A Dance in Kenya: The Kikuyu Connection

Reports arrived, echoing the cries of tribes caught in the ruthless wedge of vanishing forests, with the relentless desert closing in behind them. Chiefs forbade marriage, and women hesitated to bring life into a world marked by impending doom. The north bore witness to a tragedy unfolding—a dance of despair.

“To be in a better position to help them, I studied their language, their folklore, and tribal customs,” said Richard St. Barbe Baker, as he ventured into the unknown. In the embrace of the Kikuyu and Chief Njonjo, he sought to understand their history, their struggles, and their sacred connection to the land.

Crowdfunding for Change: UNEA-6 Awaits

As we embark on this campaign, our gaze extends beyond the horizon of Saskatoon. UNEA-6, scheduled to unfold in Nairobi, Kenya, becomes the canvas of our collective aspirations. The theme resonates: effective, inclusive, and sustainable multilateral actions to tackle climate change, biodiversity loss, and pollution. Prince George, as our envoy, will carry not only his personal journey but also the echoes of our commitment to sustainable practices.

Sowing Seeds of Change: Your Support Matters

Join the dance, become a part of this symphony of change. Contribute to our crowdfunding campaign, not just for Prince George’s journey but for the narrative we are crafting together—a narrative of youth empowerment, environmental stewardship, and the regenerative sustenance of our planet.

Let the Dance of the Trees inspire a new rhythm—a rhythm that reverberates through the halls of UNEA-6, transcending boundaries and building bridges for a sustainable future.

Echoes of the Desert Dance: St. Barbe Baker’s Legacy Continues

In the ardent tradition of environmental campaigners, let the tale unfold of Richard St. Barbe Baker, a modern crusader across the vast Sahara Desert, a relentless campaigner against desertification. As whispers of despair reached his ears, tales of tribes caught in the vice of vanishing forests and encroaching deserts stirred the soul of St. Barbe Baker. With a heart enmeshed in the plight of those driven before the relentless desert, he ventured into the very heart of their struggle.

“To be in a better position to help them,” he resolved, “I studied their language, their folklore, and tribal customs.” Initiated into their secret society, St. Barbe Baker became a guardian of ancient history handed down through oral traditions. His efforts transcended mere preservation, for he saved lives and cultures ensnared in the relentless dance of nature’s extremes.

Inspired by this afforestation luminary, the Vice Chairman of the Friends of the Saskatoon Afforestation Areas yearns to set foot on the African soil, echoing the footsteps of St. Barbe Baker in Kenya. The influence of Immy Lucas, founder of the Low Impact Movement, fuels the Vice Chairman’s passion for regenerative sustainability, echoing the ancient dance of the trees the catalyst for the Men of the Trees in a modern context. The Men of the Trees is still active as the International Tree Foundation.

Amidst Instagram’s vibrant environmental activism, influencers like Immy Lucas, Greta Thunberg, and Wilson Oryema illuminate the path towards sustainability. Now accepted to attend UNEA-6 in Nairobi, Kenya, the Vice Chairman seeks support to traverse the distance from Saskatoon. A student of regenerative sustainability, his journey mirrors that of environmental leaders like Greta Thunberg, echoing the footsteps of those dedicated to preserving nature’s delicate dance.

Witness the harmonious symphony of philanthropy as the community rallies, for this journey is not just a pilgrimage; it is a celebration of human spirit and the enduring dance between humanity and the earth. As James Whitlow Delano captures the tangible effects of climate change through his lens, the call to action resonates.

Will you join the campaign to propel the Vice Chairman from Saskatoon to Nairobi, standing alongside environmental icons in championing regenerative sustainability? The story unfolds, and the dance continues, echoing through the corridors of UNEA-6 and inspiring generations to follow in the footsteps of those committed to the sanctity of nature.
