Saturday October 1 2:00 to 5:00 pm
Sunday October 2 2:00 to 5:00 pm
Eventbrite events by Friends of the Saskatoon Afforestation Areas.
Meet up will be at George Genereux Urban Regional Park in Saskatoon, SK.
We wish to thank everyone who came out to help with the fence flagging. The flagging is now completed, and really many hands do make light work indeed.
Would you like to conserve nature in Saskatoon. Tag a fence. It is just clip, clip, clip, and soon three tags are in place. Each tag needs to be positioned about every three feet (1 meter) apart from each other. Then snap, snap, snap, and just like that another three tags provide flags on the fencing! Sweet deal. Many hands make light work for a forest greenspace
A tag facing red will protect the animals in the winter months, alternating with a tag facing white will protect the animals in the summer months.
It is a great activity to save our urban wildlife as the extinction rates increase- a wonderful means to take action for conservation for these urban regional parks where no hunting is allowed, so the animals can come back to their native habitat to build resiliency in their population numbers.
“Marking at-risk fences can reduce deadly collisions by up to 83 percent, according to research by Bryan Stevens, University of Idaho, 2012″
Usually animals can hop or fly over the wildlife friendly fencing, or smaller animals can crawl, or walk under the wildlife friendly fencing. Sometimes, when an animals is bolting, they cannot see the little tiny wires and can cause them to be smashed into the fence and tangled up, an estimated 40% mortality rate on wire fences. Oh No! Let us prevent that from happening.
Ideally pounding in a long nail tn top of wooden post discourages perching by predators as well, though we will start with the tagging! If you have some random nails to bring out and a hammer, that would be sweet.
If you can come out, and help. that would be fantastic! Snap, snap, snap, and another three tags are in place on the fence! It is great fun. Wear sturdy shoes for walking in a forest setting

A very handy thing to have would be a a recyclable cloth grocery bag, small pail like an ice cream pail and belt (like berry picking) OR a tool belt with pockets to carry around the tags as you walk along the edge of the fence!
Thanks so much for considering this time slot.
Here is walking outdoors and some autumn fun
