A Rescue Within a Rescue: The Story of a Dog’s Second Chance

In the heart of winter, a shivering and scared dog was found abandoned in the Avalon Dog Park. The dog was a rescue, previously adopted from a shelter with the promise of a forever home, but now left to fend for herself in the cold. But just when all hope seemed lost, a dog lover named Sarah came to her rescue.

Sarah, a seasoned dog owner, had always had a soft spot for rescue dogs, and she could see the potential in the shivering ball of fur in front of her. She took the dog in, giving her a warm and safe place to stay, and soon enough, the dog began to show her gratitude and love.

As it turned out, the dog was a quick learner, and soon became well-behaved and obedient. She loved to play and go on long walks, and she had a special talent for making those around her smile. Sarah knew that she had found a special dog, and she was determined to give her the forever home she deserved.

But just when everything seemed perfect, Sarah faced a new challenge. The dog, who had been terrified of water, would not even go near a bathtub. Sarah, determined to help her furry friend, took things slowly, and with patience and understanding, she was able to help the dog overcome her fear.

And so, the dog who had been abandoned twice, finally found her forever home with Sarah. She was no longer a shivering ball of fur, but a happy and confident dog, loved and cherished by her new family.

This rescue within a rescue is a reminder that every dog deserves a second chance, and that love and patience can work wonders. So here’s to the dog who found a home, and to Sarah, the dog lover who gave her one. May their story inspire others to open their hearts and homes to rescue dogs in need, and to see the love and joy that they have to offer.

Jax: A Rescue Dog’s Transformation

Jax was just another abandoned dog when she was first found at the Avalon Dog Park. She was timid and scared, with only a couple of basic commands in her vocabulary. But little did anyone know, this furry ball of fluff would soon blossom into a confident and loving companion, thanks to the patience and love of her new owners.

Jax’s new owners talked to her foster family. It was the foster family who gave her a bath and said there bathroom had never seen so much water- on the walls and ceiling. When Sarah, gave her a bath we knew what they went thru! Now she will go into the bathroom and sit by the shower if she wants a bath. Less stress for her and Sarah!

Despite Jax’s initial fear of water, her new owner, Sarah, was determined to help her overcome her fears and build trust. Sarah took things slow and introduced Jax to water gradually, always making sure she was comfortable and relaxed. Over time, Jax’s fear of water diminished, and she even began to place both paws on the bathtub, although she still wouldn’t jump in.

Sarah’s dedication and patience paid off, as Jax slowly became more and more confident in her new surroundings. She learned new commands and began to develop her own personality. Today, Jax is a happy and beloved member of Sarah’s family, who brings joy and laughter wherever she goes.

Jax’s story is a testament to the transformative power of love and patience. Despite her traumatic past, she was able to heal and blossom into a confident and affectionate companion. If you’re considering adding a dog to your family, remember that rescue dogs, like Jax, have just as much love to give as any other dog and often just need a little extra patience and understanding to reach their full potential.

A Home for a Homeless Hound: The Heartwarming Story of a Dog Lover and an Abandoned Pup

On the outskirts of Saskatoon, surrounded by lush greenery and prairie grasslands, lies the picturesque Avalon Dog Park. For many local dog lovers, it’s a place to relax and enjoy the company of their four-legged friends, to run and play and savor the fresh air. But for one special dog, it was a place of abandonment and loneliness, until a chance encounter changed his life forever.

Two years ago, a scruffy little terrier mix was found wandering aimlessly in the park, without a collar or any identification. He was skinny, scared, and alone. Concerned citizens tried to find his owner but to no avail. He was eventually taken to a local animal shelter, where he was given a temporary home, but it was clear that he needed a permanent family to call his own.

Enter Sarah, a dog lover who had gone to adopt a dog from the Saskatoon Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, SPCA. When she first laid eyes on the little terrier, she was struck by his sweet face and gentle disposition, despite the rough start to his life. She knew in her heart that she had to take him home, to give him the love and stability he so desperately needed.

And so began a beautiful friendship that has flourished over the past two years. Sarah gave the terrier a warm and loving forever home, and he repaid her in kind with endless tail wags, joyful barks, and unconditional love. They quickly became inseparable, and Sarah couldn’t imagine her life without him.

The little terrier, now a plump and happy pup, has become a regular at the South West Off Leash Recreation Area over in the Richard St. Barbe Baker Afforestation Area in Saskatoon, where he’s known for his playful nature and friendly demeanor. He’s a beloved member of the local dog-walking community, and he never fails to bring a smile to the faces of everyone he meets.

Sarah is grateful every day for the chance encounter that brought her and her furry friend together, and she’s proud to have given a forever home to a dog in need. She’s a testament to the power of love, and a shining example of how a little kindness can go a long way in making a difference in the life of an animal.

The Shaggy Dog Named Phyllis Diller: A Rescue Story

That’s a fun and unique way to name this special dog! It’s not uncommon for rescued dogs to be of unknown heritage, but that only adds to their charm and individuality. And what better way to celebrate this dog’s shaggy appearance than by giving Jax a nick name after the famous comedienne Phyllis Diller, known for her wild hair and hilarious jokes.

It’s clear that Sarah has a great sense of humor and a strong bond with Phyllis Diller. Naming her after a well-known celebrity not only gives her a playful and memorable name, but it also shows the special bond that Sarah has formed with her furry friend.

Jax’s Story: A Tale of Rescue and Love

Jax was abandoned at Avalon Dog Park in Saskatoon, left to fend for herself in the bitterly cold February weather. Luckily, two kind ladies noticed her and called the SPCA to pick her up. When Jax’s new owners came to pick her up, they had a chance meeting with these two ladies. They had a feeling it was Jax when they saw her distinct appearance, and the SPCA soon confirmed that she was a rescue dog from New Hope Rescue.

When Jax’s new family adopted her, they knew very little about her history. Adoption agencies typically provide minimal information about the pets they place, but Jax’s foster family provided invaluable insight into her personality and quirks. They had even bought her a treat ball that she still treasures to this day!

Jax’s foster family also gave her a bath, an experience that left quite an impression on both Jax and her new family. Now, whenever Jax wants a bath, she’ll sit by the shower and let her humans know. It’s one of many ways that Jax has shown her new family just how much she trusts and loves them.

Foster families like Jax’s are an essential part of the rescue process, providing temporary homes and love to pets in need. It’s not always easy to say goodbye when it’s time for the pet to be adopted, but it’s a vital part of the work they do. As Jax’s new family can attest, it takes a special kind of person to be a foster parent, and they are incredibly grateful for the role that Jax’s foster family played in bringing her into their lives.

For Jax’s new family, it’s clear that the love and companionship that Jax brings into their lives is priceless. As they say, “I may have rescued Jax, but equally I think she rescued me.” There’s no denying the unconditional love and joy that pets like Jax bring into our lives, and we are all the better for it.

End of Day 3 CNCYXE2022

It is the end of May 1, the third day of the Saskatoon City Nature Challenge April 29 to May 2. Thanks to everyone who has added observations on iNaturalist! Come out on Monday May 2, and make a difference!

It was an interesting day to follow through on the Insect Workshop. So, when you take a peek into pond water of marshes like the Chappell Marsh at Richard St. Barbe Baker Afforestation Area, there are bugs in the water swimming around! Here is a Pond Life video of the Caddisfly larva which was found! And following up on the Fungi including Lichen Workshop, 60 different observations have taken place for Lichen and shelf fungi are being noted at this time of the year.

National Forest Week The last full week of September. Maple Leaf Day the Wednesday of that week.

This program for National Forest Week is brought to you by the Friends of the Saskatoon Afforestation Areas an environmental non-profit charity that was created to preserve and restore the 326-acre Richard St. Barbe Baker Afforestation Area and the 148-acre George Genereux Urban Regional Park. Our work reinforces the 1979 City Council decision designating these afforestation areas on the western fringe of Saskatoon to “be preserved in perpetuity.” They are important habitat for wildlife as well as semi-wild public spaces for recreation and nature immersion. The larger of these two areas is named after Richard St. Barbe Baker (1889-1982), who has been called the “first global conservationist” and in recognition of this he was made the first Honorary Life Member of the World Wildlife Fund in 1969. A British forester who also homesteaded and studied in Saskatoon, he dedicated his entire life unfailingly to the preservation and planting of trees and forests.

During the novel coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic we cannot safely host a group tree planting ceremony. So, we did the next best thing, we are hosting a virtual forest protection event!

Isn’t it great to have safe forests to enjoy the natural, recreational, and health benefits of forests? Come on board! We have successfully with the help of our sponsors raised money to mitigate illegal vehicle trespass from the west side of the afforestation area!

Thank you to the City of Saskatoon Environmental Grant, Expocrete, EcoFriendly Saskatchewan, Fatlanders Fatbike Brigade, Friends of the Saskatoon Afforestation Areas, Sask Energy, SaskOutdoors, and the amazing citizens of Saskatoon for rallying around with donations and grants in support of park protection!

Guess what? There is now an Arbor Day Safe Forests Go Fund Me Page to support our trees in the afforestation areas! We are so close to having a means to barricade entrance by motorized vehicles at the west side area to prevent illegal trespass and illegal dumping! It would be fantastic to be able to level the ground and gravel the surface of this low-lying area for the vehicle barriers. We just need that little bit more! With your help during Arbor Week, it will surely make a grand difference.

Wouldn’t it be ever so nice not to have another huge community volunteer clean up? Don’t get me wrong, it was amazing to turn around the eco-system, and see the forest and the environment restored to a healthy eco-system without trash. But it will be ever so nice to not have those drive in hauling their trash into a park by those too lazy or cheap to go to the landfill. Then huge community clean ups are not needed any longer!!! Yay!!!

A BOTTLE DRIVE done safely!!! During the Novel Coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic, we cannot go door to door asking for bottles, but we can post our virtual bottle drive, and arrange a safe pick up.

If you should wish to support a forest and wetlands in the city, we are a non-profit charity raising money to protect these wonderful afforestation areas!

Please phone us for a recycling bottle drive pick up! We will come, and store the bottles in a garage until SARCAN re-opens. So, if you have too many bottles laying around- and they are just in the way, then do some community good, protect some endangered species, work towards saving a forest, wetlands and grasslands in Saskatoon and DONATE YOUR BOTTLES TO A BOTTLE DRIVE!

We would love to give you a pamphlet with more information about the urban regional parks and our non-profit charity named Friends of the Saskatoon Afforestation Areas Inc.!

We are raising money specifically to erect motorized vehicle barriers to mitigate illegal vehicle trespass into an urban regional parks, and to stop illegal trash dumping. We are further raising money to erect signs for these urban regional parks. If you think safe parks are a swell deal, please contact us.

Day to day environmental learning, tidbits of information posted every day during Earth Month. Unfortunately with great thought it is wise to reduce suffering, so our planned spring outdoor gatherings have been cancelled to respect the COVID-19 protocols so as to not put people at risk in group gatherings – postponed are the bio-blitzes, scavenger hunts, tours, and Clean Green Community Scene volunteer cleanup. We are adding to our website daily online activities for the month of April which involve interaction, education and awareness about Earth Month with a focus on the Earth Month Theme Climate Change.
