Are you an experienced Cultural and Environmental Heritage Writer looking to make a difference? If so, we have an exciting opportunity for you!

We are seeking an experienced Cultural and Environmental Heritage Writer to join our team and help honour the United Nations Decade of Indigenous Languages. We are creating a Prairie Forest Guide smart phone app that will feature virtual markers, providing wayfinding information and highlighting the Indigenous and Métis history of the land.

As the Cultural and Environmental Heritage Writer, you will be responsible for editing, fact-checking, and interpreting stories for the app. You will need to be creative and knowledgeable about the Indigenous and Métis history of the afforestation areas. You will need to ensure that stories are accurate and engaging, while also being respectful of Indigenous cultures and traditions.

The successful candidate will have excellent writing skills, a strong sense of cultural sensitivity, and a passion for environmental issues. You should have an understanding of Indigenous cultures and be familiar with their history. You should also have a background in environmental heritage research, with experience in writing and editing interpretive stories.

This is a unique opportunity to be part of a project that will honour Indigenous cultures and help to preserve the environment for future generations. Bridge the gap between Indigenous and non-Indigenous persons

Are you passionate about the environment, culture, and heritage of the prairie forest? Are you interested in finding ways to bridge the gap between Indigenous and non-Indigenous persons, and to promote reconciliation? If so, then we want you to join our team as the Cultural and Environmental Heritage Prairie Forest Guide Smart Phone App Editor!

We are looking for an editor with a demonstrated ability to relate and apply knowledge of Aboriginal knowledge, culture, and ethical standards. The successful candidate will be working to develop and edit existing stories on a mobile app that will provide outdoor education opportunities in a public park space. This app will be designed to honour the United Nations Decade on Indigenous Languages, and to provide meaningful, culturally-relevant information about the prairie forest’s history and current state.

The ideal candidate will have experience working with technology and a background in Aboriginal Studies. The candidate must have a deep respect for Indigenous knowledge and culture, and must be able to work with diverse stakeholders to ensure the app is developed in a culturally-sensitive manner. They must be comfortable working with a team of designers, developers, and other professionals to ensure the app meets all objectives.

Seeking an Editor for Cultural and Environmental Heritage Prairie Forest Guide App

Are you passionate about the Canadian Prairies and their unique cultural and environmental heritage? Do you have a degree in education, as well as hands-on success and experience in outdoor and environmental education learning experiences? If so, then you may be the perfect fit for the position of Cultural and Environmental Heritage Prairie Forest Guide App editor.

The Cultural and Environmental Heritage Prairie Forest Guide App is an innovative educational tool that seeks to promote reconciliation between indigenous and non-indigenous persons. It focuses on the social and natural aspects of the prairies and allows users to explore and learn about the unique culture and environment of the area.

As the App editor, you will be responsible for ensuring the content of the App is accurate and up-to-date. You will work with a team of designers, developers, and content specialists to create an engaging and informative experience for users. Additionally, you will be responsible for editing existing App stories, and including additional relevant content which is missing.

The ideal candidate for this position should have a degree in education or a related field and experience in outdoor and environmental education learning experiences. You should be comfortable working in a team environment and have an eye for detail. Additionally, you should be passionate about the Canadian Prairies and the unique cultural and environmental heritage of the two Saskatoon Afforestation Areas namely Richard St. Barbe Baker Afforestation Area and George Genereux Urban Regional Park.

Seeking an Innovative App Editor for Cultural & Environmental Heritage Prairie Forest Guide

Are you a forward-thinking individual who is passionate about bridging the gap between traditional connections with nature and modern science? Are you looking for an opportunity to develop a new and innovative app that teaches people about the cultural and environmental heritage of the prairie forest?

We are seeking an experienced and knowledgeable app editor to develop a Prairie Forest Guide that will teach users about the local flora and fauna, as well as the traditional uses of native plants for healing and medicinal purposes.

In this role, you will be responsible for researching and writing content, as well as developing interactive activities and illustrations. You will need to have a deep understanding of both indigenous terms for flora and fauna as well as Western scientific classification systems. Your goal will be to create a unique and inspiring experience for users that will foster reconciliation between cultures.

The ideal candidate for this position will have a degree in ecology, environmental studies, or a related field and will be knowledgeable about the prairie forest and its various plants, animals, and traditional uses. They must also have excellent communication skills, be organized and detail-oriented, and be comfortable working with a variety of software tools.

Importance of reconciliation and traditional ecological ways of knowing

Are You an Experienced Cultural and Environmental Heritage Writer?

We’re looking for an experienced Cultural and Environmental Heritage Writer who can edit and run reconciliation, traditional ecological ways of knowing fact checks on The GPS interpretive app. The GPS interpretive app is designed to facilitate place-based learning for families, health and wellness enthusiasts, classrooms, nature lovers, and greenspace park users.

The ideal candidate should have a strong background in cultural and environmental heritage writing and an understanding of the importance of reconciliation and traditional ecological ways of knowing. They should also have a passion for nature and the outdoors, and a desire to help educate others about the importance of protecting and preserving nature.

Responsibilities for this position include:

  • Editing and running reconciliation, traditional ecological ways of knowing fact checks for The GPS interpretive app
  • Developing content for the app that is both accurate and engaging
  • Ensuring accuracy in all content related to traditional ecological ways of knowing
  • Collaborating with the app developers and other stakeholders to ensure the accuracy of the app

Qualifications for this position include:

  • Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Environmental Studies, Environmental Science, or a related field
  • Strong writing / editing skills, with experience in cultural and environmental heritage writing
  • Understanding of reconciliation and traditional ecological ways of knowing
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

End of Day 3 CNCYXE2022

It is the end of May 1, the third day of the Saskatoon City Nature Challenge April 29 to May 2. Thanks to everyone who has added observations on iNaturalist! Come out on Monday May 2, and make a difference!

It was an interesting day to follow through on the Insect Workshop. So, when you take a peek into pond water of marshes like the Chappell Marsh at Richard St. Barbe Baker Afforestation Area, there are bugs in the water swimming around! Here is a Pond Life video of the Caddisfly larva which was found! And following up on the Fungi including Lichen Workshop, 60 different observations have taken place for Lichen and shelf fungi are being noted at this time of the year.

Stay tuned for the follow up identification party virtual zoom workshops so you can discuss your finds during the City Nature Challenge with specialists!

Species At Risk Education

How can you bring species at risk into the classroom, family, or Home Educator learning?

At the Saskatoon Afforestation Areas are the following species at risk:

Ochlodes sylvanoides napa  (Woodland Skipper),  Horned Grebe ( Podiceps auritus), Aechmophorus occidentalis (Western Grebe),  Dolichonyx oryzivorus (Bobolink ), Riparia riparia (Bank Swallow), Phalaropus lobatus (Red-necked Phalarope), Tringa flavipes (lesser yellowlegs), Ammodramus bairdii (Baird’s Sparrow)Ammodramus savannarum (grasshopper sparrow) , Ambystoma mavortium barred tiger (salamander or western tiger salamander) , Sambucus racemosa (Red-berried Elder), Cypripedium parviflorum var. makasin (Northern Small Yellow Lady’s-slipper), Accipiter cooperii (Cooper’s Hawk) C.O.S.E.W.I.C. protection list, Fraxinus pennsylvanica (Green Ash) critically endangered (CR) (IUCN Red List), Calidris pusilla (Semipalmated Sandpiper) near threatened (IUCN Red List), Pelecanus erythrorhynchos (American White Pelican)  imperiled (S2B,S4M) in Saskatchewan, CA (NatureServe), Pinicola enucleator (Pine Grosbeak) S2B, S4N Imperiled in SK (Nature Serve) and nearby there has been spotted the Grus americana (Whooping Crane) and Antigone canadensis (Sandhill Crane)  imperiled (S2B,S4M) in Saskatchewan, CA (NatureServe).
