How are you celebrating the first day of National Forest Week? Saturday September 19 is an amazing day with the colors of the forest turning gold and red, the waxwings and black-capped chickadees flying from branch to branch.
The George Genereux Urban Regional Park clean up is Saturday September 19 from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm there will be a Loraas bin on-site! Besides full day shifts people can come out for shifts throughout the day.
George Genereux Urban Regional Park was planted as a tree nursery in 1972, preserved in perpetuity that same year, named in 1979 and this amazing 1/2 mile by 1/2 mile afforestation area became an urban regional park also in 1979. Afforestation: the planting of trees where there were none before. Yet, technically the trembling aspen bluffs were preserved, and these bluffs are actually clones of trees which have expanded so magnificently in size.
